Today, Dua Lipa posted several photos of herself fashionably lounging by the seaside. (Presumably, these were taken in Italy during Milan Fashion Week, as hinted by Lipa’s caption of “ALLORAAAA.”) One of the images that stood was of the pop star wearing an itty-bitty cropped top in the shape of a butterfly by the designer Masha Popova. Lipa accessorized with a metal choker, which, upon closer inspection, appears to have a pair of wired headphones threaded through them. Specifically Apple’s EarPods with Lightning Connector, with two earbuds dangling at the pop star’s Grammy-winning throat. The piece was by the designer Corrina Goutos.
The wired headphone is the most humble of phone accessories. It’s not as flashy as wireless AirPods that sell for $159, or the next-level AirPod Pros that are marked at $249. By contrast, Lipa’s wired headphones are $19. She isn’t the only celebrity giving lo-fi tech a go: Back in 2019, when wireless headphones were bursting onto the market, Hadid instead stepped out with a pair of Earpods.
After all, the wired headphone sends a message. Lipa is clearly perfectly secure with her low-fi accessories and has nothing to flaunt except for herself and, well, her good wardrobe. And if you’ve bit the bullet and gone wireless, why not take a page from Lipa and wear your old Earpods as a necklace?
