Since Olivia Wilde’s new psychological thriller Don’t Worry Darling was announced, the film’s plot has mostly been kept under wraps. But after the film’s brand new trailer dropped on July 21, it’s possible to glean some important points: Harry Styles and Florence Pugh get it on several times in the movie, Chris Pine proved that he’s still in the running as Hollywood’s best Chris, and Styles and Wilde — one of Hollywood’s most talked-about couples, — are sharing scenes.

But despite the hush-hush plot, the Warner Bros. Pictures film has been consistently sending the Internet into a frenzy. First when Styles was cast, then when Wilde released the teaser trailer via Instagram last September showing Styles making out with his onscreen wife, and again last April when she dropped a sneak peek still of the lead stars looking very intimate. More recently, on August 18, Warner Brothers released three brand new photos from the much-anticipated thriller, showing close-up shots of lead stars Styles, Pugh, and Pine with the mysterious caption, “All is well in Victory....”

Wilde is clearly pulling out all the stops in her next directorial project after the critically-acclaimed Booksmart. She even teamed up with her former Booksmart collaborator Katie Silberman for the screenplay, based on a spec script by Carey and Shane Van Dyke. But Wilde isn’t just directing the movie, she’s also producing and starring in it. Here’s everything we know about Don’t Worry Darling, including how to watch the movie and when.

Don’t Worry Darling Trailer

During the film’s intense new trailer released on July 21, fans were treated to an extended glimpse of Pugh, Styles, Pine, and Wilde, who appear to be living happily ever after in the utopian community of Victory. However, the trailer soon teases that not everything is as it seems.

In the teaser, Pugh’s character begins seeking help for nightmares as she questions the seemingly idyllic community in which she resides. Pugh also soon realises that everyone around her appears to be “lying about everything” adding that “it’s all about control.” She is also shown to be met with resistance from those in the community, and is told to “keep calm and carry on.”

Don’t Worry Darling Cast & Plot

The film centers on Alice (Pugh), a housewife in a utopian experimental community in the ’50s who discovers that her darling husband isn’t who he seems. While the rest of the movie’s plot is mostly under wraps, Wilde hasn’t shied away from talking about her cast. In an interview with Variety, Wilde mentioned Pugh when talking about professional actors who can just “turn it on.” She said, “It’s incredible these actresses who can pull that off, just always blow my mind, like Florence Pugh ... She’s the same.” She added, “It’s something that is suggestive of a lack of ego in the process.”

Wilde also had nothing but praise for Styles, who plays Alice’s husband, Jack. In Feb. 2021, she posted a photo on Instagram lamenting how most male actors “don’t want to play supporting roles in female-led films” — but not Styles. She wrote, “Not only did [Styles] relish the opportunity to allow for the brilliant @florencepugh to hold center stage as our ‘Alice’, but he infused every scene with a nuanced sense of humanity.” She added, “He didn’t have to join our circus, but he jumped on board with humility and grace, and blew us away every day with his talent, warmth, and ability to drive backwards.”

The cast also includes other heavyweights. Pine plays Frank, who seems to be the top dog and a powerful (albeit potentially wicked and deranged) man. It’s likely that he’s the mastermind behind this utopia.

Though their individual storylines remain unclear, Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians), KiKi Layne (The Old Guard), and Sydney Chandler, round out the cast as Shelley, Margaret, and Bunny, respectively, the other perfect wives supporting their husbands in the experimental community. Wilde also features prominently as Mary, another of the wives. Per the trailer, Wilde definitely shares scenes with her boyfriend, even those where he gets cozy with Pugh. Nick Kroll also joins the cast while Dita Von Teese is credited as a burlesque dancer, so get ready for a show.

Don’t Worry Darling Release Date

After lockdown delays in production in 2020, the film finally wrapped production in February of last year and has a release date of Sept. 23, 2022. With a theaters-only release, viewers can countdown to watch the haunting thriller on the big screen.
