All the Real Housewives who inspired iconic memes and TikTok sounds

‘People get exhausted trying to figure me out and I just let them’

The Real Housewives have given a lot to society ever since the first franchise, The Real Housewives of Orange County, aired in 2006. For viewers of the 12 Housewives franchises it’s provided hours of unmatched entertainment. And even for those who have no clue who Lisa Vanderpump or Bethenny Frankel are, they will still have been influenced by the iconic memes and TikTok sounds the Real Housewives have inspired.

Thanks to the legendary and extroverted women, they’ve unintentionally created moments and catchphrases that are now being reused years later as memes and TikTok sounds. The Woman Yelling At Cat meme? Yep, that’s from the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. And the recent TikTok audio “People get exhausted trying to figure me out and I just let them” is Kenya Moore’s tagline from season seven of Real Housewives of Atlanta.

Over the years their words and actions have created some of the most recognisable internet moments and been cemented in popular culture. You may not know who Shereé Whitfield is, but you’ve certainly heard her phrase “who gon check me boo?” before.

These are all the Real Housewives who have been the centre of our favourite TikTok sounds and memes:

Nene Leakes

Of course the Real Housewives of Atlanta OG Nene Leakes had to end up on this list at least once. One of Nene’s many memorable lines “whew chile the ghetto” became a TikTok sound earlier this year with people using it in TikToks to talk about old iPhones, going to certain parts of London or different camps at Reading Festival.

The sound has been considered a little controversial, with many users on TikTok and Twitter saying it reinforces socio-economic prejudice.

The clips originally comes from season six of Real Housewives of Atlanta, when Nene visits fellow Housewife Kenya Moore at the hotel apartment she is staying in downtown.

Nene is essentially horrified by Kenya’s living situation, terrified by Kenya’s very small dog and says to her “where you live bitch?”

Taylor Armstrong

Perhaps the most famous meme to ever come out of the Real Housewives is the Woman Yelling At Cat meme, which features Real Housewives of Beverly Hill’s Taylor Armstrong.

The moment, which inspired the iconic meme, actually took place over 10 years ago in 2011 but it wasn’t until 2019 when people put the image of Taylor together with the cat.

So what exactly caused Taylor’s screams? Well it happens in episode 14 of season two when all the ladies attend a beach party in Malibu. The tensions between Taylor and Camille have been rising for quite a while and they eventually have a massive blow out at the party.

Of course, underlying all of this is the abuse Taylor was suffering from her then husband Russell, which had not yet been revealed to the cast or audience.

Kandi Burruss

A lot of the most famous Real Housewives memes and TikToks come from pretty dark moments and Kandi’s viral line “the lies! The lies!” comes from one too.

The audio “the lies! the lies!” is often used on TikTok and comes from the one of the reunion episodes of season nine of The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

In the scene it has just been revealed that Phaedra had fed Porsha the lie that Kandi and her husband Todd were going to drug Porsha and take her back home with them.

The entire cast and crew are unaware it is Phaedra who created the lie and obviously Kandi is upset about it, hence why she calls her out on her lies.

Teresa’s daughter Gia Giudice

Technically Gia Giudice isn’t a Real Housewife but she’s been on the Real Housewives of New Jersey since season one, as the daughter of the legendary Teresa and so she practically is at this point.

Whilst she is 21-years-old now, her viral TikTok sound actually comes from when she was much younger. Gia is the person singing the viral TikTok audio “Waking up in the morning thinking about so many things,” which people on TikTok have used to share their embarrassing stories about the night before.

Gia originally sang the song in season three, episode 16 of the Real Housewives of New Jersey, when she was 10 years old as her mum Teresa and her uncle Joe Gorga were not getting along amid all their family drama.

Shereé Whitfield

Shereé Whitfield is responsible for the iconic TikTok sound and occasional meme “who gon check me boo?”, which she’s been using as one of her catchphrases for more than 10 years since she first said the phrase in 2009.

The phrase has become a massive part of popular culture with people using it on Twitter, TikTok and Instagram as either a caption or sound.

Shereé first said: “who gon check me boo?” during an incredibly chaotic meeting with a party planner for her She by Shereé fashion line.

The argument started as Shereé wanted to be completely involved in the process of planning her event and the team wanted to write a poem about her even though they didn’t know her.

They then get into an argument about respecting each other’s time and the party planner attempts to fire her as a client and says she needs to “check”  herself to which Shereé replies, whilst still wearing her sunglasses, the famous words “who gon check me boo?”

Kenya Moore

One of the more recent TikTok sounds inspired by the Real Housewives is the phrase “people get exhausted trying to figure me out, and I just let them”.

People use it on TikTok as a sound to accompany their videos about conflicting things about themselves or times they’ve changed, such as “drinking oat milk but then ordering a steak”.

The sound originally comes from Kenya Moore’s tag line from season seven of Real Housewives of Atlanta, which started in 2014.

Lisa Rinna

So, technically this Real Housewives inspired meme didn’t actually take place on the show but considering how iconic it is, it’s need be included.

I am of course talking about the Lisa Rinna M&M meme. Lisa Rinna appeared as a cartoon M&M on a poster in 2008 on the “red carpet” for the Oscars alongside Joey Fatone (also as a cartoon M&M) in order to promote the awards show.

The advert came out six years before she joined the Housewives of Beverly Hills in 2014 and it’s only now, more than 10 years later, that the picture of her has become a viral meme.

People have cut out the image of Lisa as the M&M and inserted her into a number of bizarre situations such as arriving at Balmoral or in Family Guy.
